The CAM pax indexes are too soft. I’m surprised anyone runs STP (or even FS).
Thankfully, only one of the groups I run with has an overall pax competition, and the average skill level of CAM drivers is still terrible.
I instructed in a 2018 PP Mustang GT a couple of weeks ago and thought it was a great car except for one thing (it had an issue with the axle overheating, which put the car in limp mode). Otherwise, for such a big car it moved well (I was expecting to feel the weight and have to fight the car a bit more, but the big girl had some sweet dance moves).
It’s hard to accept that Mustangs are over $50k now with all the goodies (still a good deal, but ouch).

CAM is just so ridiculous at a national level. I wouldn’t mind running it locally, aside from having no competition beyond PAX, but taking a mild build to a higher level event would just be disappointing. At least when I lose at higher levels in FS I know it’s my fault.
I’ve been placing top 3 PAX locally pretty regularly in FS. This event I had a co- driver who had previous experience in a Camaro he owned and had co-driven two 5th SS 1LEs this year. He was really impressed with my Mustang, felt like it was more predictable and controllable than the Camaros. Many people that ride with me say they’re surprised by how well the big girl handles, thought that could just be that I’m a faster driver than they’re used to.
50k is a lot, but I think performance-wise the cars are definitely worth that coin. Build quality needs a bit of an improvement, and some materials are a little iffy at that price but I think it’s a fair trade for the performance-per-dollar. Regardless, I don’t expect ‘18's to magically hold value better than their predecessors: I only paid $ 25k for mine. I would be very hard pressed to get an overall package as good as my Mustang for $25k.

We’ve got a couple of local guys here in Texas who have built monsters.
Mike Dusold’s twin turbo Camaro in CAM-T has already caused a couple of rule changes (it originally had over 1000hp, but that made it undrivable on the autox courses). David Whitener is building a “Jeep” out of a corvette just to blow up the class (both of them can put down FTD, and our local region averages over 150 competitors and at least a dozen drivers with jackets from nationals).
The ProSolo’s are where it becomes an issue, the PAX and horsepower advantages are just too much to overcome.
